After his Euro 2012 snub, should the Manchester United defender accept or reject a potential recall now Chelsea man John Terry has announced his retirement?

Ring Ring. "Rio here," "Hi Rio its Roy Hodgson."

"What's up?", "Rio I was really impressed with your performance against Liverpool yesterday and I would like to welcome you back into the England set up."

"Has this got anything to do with John Terry's retirement?", "Well yes to be honest it leaves me needing to replace him."

- Line goes dead. -

Not a genuine conversation of course, but its pretty much how we imagine the awkward chat about an England recall would go if it materialised.

Except we've made the assumption Rio would hang up and effectively tell the manager to stick it. What do you think the defender should and would do?

Rio Ferdinand was controversially committed from England's Euro 2012 squad, with the reasons disputed.
The perceived reason is that Hodgson did not want him and John Terry in the same squad after the Chelsea defender's alleged racial abuse of his brother.

Officially Ferdinand was left out for 'football reasons', which the player himself did not believe considering his strong end to the season, and became even more farcical when the inexperienced Martin Kelly was called into the squad as a replacement for the injured Gary Cahill.

With Terry's shock retirement last night, Hodgson will have to ask himself where he goes next.
Perhaps he realises his bridges with Ferdinand have been burnt, and maybe he will turn to younger options such as Newcastle's Steven Taylor, but a player of Rio's experience could be invaluable in guiding the squad through some tough qualifying games to help them reach the 2014 World Cup.

Ferdinand was impressive at Anfield yesterday and can still contribute, if asked, and if he accepts.
