Danny Welbeck had a mixed 12 months last season, scoring just one Premier League goal forManchester United.
He admitted over the summer he was desperate to bag more goals, and has got this season now off to a positive start.
He set up a goal for Robin van Persie in the Community Shield against Wigan, and in his second match in Wembley at succession he found the scoresheet.
He scored England's second equaliser by heading home a free-kick against Scotland, before almost scoring an acrobatic volley minutes later in the 3-2 win.
And his efforts did not go unnoticed.
ITV co-commentator Andy Townsend selected the striker as his Man of the Match.
He said: "He's got a very good goal and he continues to impress me with his all round game."
Welbeck will hope he impressed several of his doubters at Wembley, a positive sign ahead of next summer, while Manchester United teammate Wayne Rooney looked desperately short of match sharpness.
