This has led to the inevitable conclusion that there will now be a bid from Manchester United for his services. This is especially so, as there has been a dramatic fading of the form of both Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes in the last couple of months. This has prompted Sir Alex Ferguson to rekindle thoughts of trying one last time to lure the Dutchman to Old Trafford.
He will have the added benefit that he will cost a lot less as Milan will have to sell to avoid Sneijder leaving on a Bosman for free. It is also likely that due to Sneijder’s loss of a bit of form this season, his wage demands will also have to be curtailed. This will play right into Sir Alex`s hands.
United have recently found some good form, and their midfield troubles have been assuaged by the emergence of a good relationship between Tom Cleverley and Michael Carrick. However, there is little cover and Sir Alex knows that he needs another creative midfielder to do a similar job to that of Arsenal`s Spanish midfield maestro, Santi Cazorla.
United certainly have the resources at the moment with cash flooding in from all angles, so despite Sir Alex stating that there will not be any transfer activity this January, it could all change if a player of the stature of Sneijder becomes available. Sir Alex took a punt last season on Van Persie. He broke all his own rules by signing a player aged 29 for nearly £25m on massive wages, but we all know how that has turned out!
I would not be at all surprised to see Manchester United make advances if there is a positive reaction from the Sneijder camp.
